GTA Golf Tournament Sponsorship

2013 GTA GOLF TOURNAMENT SPONSORSHIP
Saturday, June 1st
Sandpiper - Country Club Tour

As is the case every year the GTA Golf Tournament is very successful due to the support of its members – manufacturers, suppliers, and glazing contractors.

Part of this success comes from the “hole sponsorship”  the GTA receives from its members.  This year the Golf Tournament Committee is asking its members to contribute to the tournament by sponsoring a hole.  The committee’s objective is to have each hole sponsored.

Each sponsorship is worth $ 150.00.  For each hole sponsored you will be provided with a sign with the company’s name on it.

Confirmation of your company’s sponsorship can be sent by fax to (780) 451-9170.  Please include Company, Contact Name, Contact Phone Number(s).  Cheques are to be made payable to Glass Trades of Northern Alberta and can be dropped off or mailed to:

Glass Trades Association
10215 – 176 Street
Edmonton, Alberta T5S 1M1

*****If anyone wishes to sponsor the trophies, specialty holes or pre-game gift bags please contact Ryan Ardiel (Golf Tournament Chairperson) @ 780-913-1519 or 780-486-6613.*****

We look forward to your participation and thank-you for your support.

GAMA Guest Speaker Announced

Considerations for the Condensation Resistance of Fenestration Assemblies
Guest Speaker: Joe Erb, Commercial Market Manager, Edgetech IG

The ever stringent focus on the thermal performance of fenestration products for thermal transmittance (U-factor) and solar heat gain (SHGC) ignores the third thermal performance parameter; condensation resistance. Performance factors that may have a minimal impact on U-factor and/or SHGC may be critical in the prevention of condensation formation that may, if not controlled, lead to health concerns and building component/system damage. This presentation compares the differences between the performance of fenestration products relative to U-factor and condensation resistance and outlines principal design features to improve the latter.

In Memory of Samantha Simpson

On August 20th Blake Simpson’s wife, Samantha Simpson, passed away in an automobile accident.

Blake is one of the owners of Beacon Glass and he currently holds an Employer Representative position with the Provincial Apprenticeship Committee.  On behalf of the Glazing Industry, The PGAA wishes to express our condolences to Blake and his family in this most difficult time.  As per the wishes of Blake, the PGAA will be making a donation to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Samantha’s memory for the amount of $500.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Simpson family.

HELP - Glaziers Needed!

The Provincial Glaziers Association of Alberta (PGAA) is considering a Master Glazier certification program in partnership with SAIT Polytechnic.  The objective of the Master Glazier program will be to provide Journeymen Glaziers the ability to upgrade their knowledge with the most current information relevant to the glazing industry and the latest developments in the Building Envelope Sciences. The proposed Master Glazier program will aim to provide additional training in new technical and leadership skills preparing Journeymen for superintendent roles, project leadership roles, and preparation for those individuals that wish to start their own businesses.

I hope you will be able to give us 10 minutes of your time to answer some questions regarding the proposed Master Glazier program. Your input is very important in order for PGAA and SAIT to continue to offer industry relevant services and programs.  Please share this survey link with all the glaziers within your company and/or members of your association:  http://MasterGlazier.questionpro.com.

As a thank you for completing this survey your name will be entered in a draw for a $500 gift card to Best Buy! To qualify for this draw, please submit your response by September 10th, 2012.

Your participation is voluntary and any information you provide is completely confidential. Only summary or aggregate information will be reported, and no individuals will be identified. Please note that the partially completed survey cannot be saved so it should be completed in one sitting. If you have any technical questions or issues with the survey, please contact Agata Nowak at SAIT Polytechnic at 403-210-5939, or marketing.research@sait.ca.

Calling all second year apprentices!

As of May 7, 2012, there is a second period class starting at SAIT Mayland Heights in Calgary. There are 10 apprentices registered for this class, leaving 6 seats vacant. It would be great if we could get a few more apprentices into this class. It is in the Industry’s best interest to get these classes to at least 13 filled seats. Any less than that and the program will be scrutinized. Your help in filling these vacant seats would be greatly appreciated, by SAIT, your apprentice and by Industry.
